The Car:
The 1963 Corvette Stingray is the 1st model year of the iconic 2nd generation Corvette. This C2 generation was a huge departure from the 1st generation in styling with an eye towards increased performance. The base 1963 Corvette came with a 327 cubic inch, 250 horsepower V8 engine, mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. While horsepower remained unchanged on the base model from the prior generation, higher performance variants of the 327 engine were available at 300, 340, & 360 horsepower. Options included a 4 speed manual transmission or two-speed automatic transmission, air conditioning, power windows, tinted glass and AM/FM radio.
The Collector:
Chevrolet made 21,513 Corvette Stingrays, split evenly between the convertible and the coupe, a new offering for the Corvette. The limited production, performance and beautiful design of the second generation Corvette makes this car highly desirable and collectable.
The Love:
I have always loved the 1963 Corvette Stingray. The chrome bumpers, pop-up headlights and split rear window all ooze style. In my opinion it is the number one classic American sports car.
