The Car:

The 1955 Chevrolet 3100 is an icon of mid-century American trucks. After gaining popularity as a standout model in Chevy’s Task Force series, buyers loved the truck for its stylish, rounded body lines and smooth, sleek profile. Powered by the 265-cubic-inch V8 engine, a first for Chevrolet trucks, the 1955 model boasted much-improved power over previous models. It also featured a distinctive egg-crate grille, chrome accents, and optional two-tone paint patterns that elevated its look from purely utilitarian to stylish and eye-catching. With an upgraded suspension system, the 3100 also provided a smoother ride, which was not only appealing to drivers of the time but also effective in helping this truck to remain cherished by vintage truck enthusiasts today.

The Collector:

This truck was part of Chevrolet’s first major post-WWII redesign, introducing a wraparound “panoramic” windshield that gave drivers a wider field of vision. This felt very futuristic for the time. This model also marked a shift in truck design from basic workhorse to a stylish and versatile vehicle that could double as family transportation. The introduction of the small-block V8 engine gave the 3100 the reliability to handle those diverse driving needs. This also expanded the truck’s market beyond farms and construction sites to the suburbs. The 1955 Chevrolet 3100 overall embodied a new era in trucking, making it a classic representation of when trucks became part of everyday American life.

The Love:

My husband and I love old trucks and DIY projects. While we don’t have a 1955 Chevrolet 3100, it is one that we’d like to own in the future. We like the look and history behind this truck. Obviously, we wouldn’t put it through too much work as it’s a collectible, but we’d love to include one on an outdoor project. We think it embodies the spirit of mid-century and it always catches our eyes when we catch one on the open road.
